about our bookroom!

hello! you’ve found your way to the BOOKROOM of the ohio reading corps — a joint endeavor of the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio and ServeOhio/Americorps. we’re full & part-time volunteers at a variety of school districts in central and northern ohio — and the project is growing each year! day in and day out, we get the chance to work one-on-one, and in small groups, with brilliant elementary schoolers in need of some additional reading/writing/literacy intervention. a HUGE part of our work, then, is matching our young readers with appropriate books!

this website aims to join together the resources of the various “bookrooms” at each of our respective school sites. what’s a bookroom, you might ask? notice the crazy green walls? stacks & stacks of well-loved texts neatly (or not-so-neatly) arrayed in boxes on wall-high shelves? an occasional desk or box fan? WELCOME TO THE BOOKROOM. a bookroom is the heart of a school literacy program, and this online bookroom aims to help our Ohio Reading Corps volunteers find great books (and great ideas for those books) faster!

we’re working to add Corpsmembers’ reviews of books they’ve read with students throughout the summer — ideally, this website will go on as a resource not only for Ohio Reading Corps service members, but for teachers, literacy coaches, specialists and kids in all of the schools that we serve!

HOW IT WORKS:
search for a theme! a book level (we use the Fountas & Pinnell book levelling system)! your school’s location! see what our bookroom turns up!) you can also use our tag cloud to view popular tags, or get some ideas!

thanks for visiting! please send any input, ideas or advice to jess + jeff AT ohioreadingcorpsbookroom [at] gmail [dot] com.

HAPPY READING!
