Commander Toad and the Intergalactic Spy. K.

Yolen, Jane. Commander Toad and the Intergalactic Spy. K. 1986.

Commander Toad and his loyal crew of amphibians must rescue his cousin, the famous spy Tip Toad, from a spy training planet—if they can figure out which spy is really Tip Toad! The goofy spies and their funny schemes and scenarios are quite funny, but many of the pop-culture puns are very dated (Laugh-In, anyone?) and will go far over heads.

Ghost School. M.

Clifford, Eth. Ghost School. M. 1999.

Twin sisters Elizabeth and Carol and their friend Jeff love spooky stuff and decide to sneak into a haunted school.  There they meet ghost teachers and ghost students, and have to help find a new building for the school, as it is slated to be torn down. Despite this promisingly exciting premise, there’s very few ghosts for the first 20 or 25 pages as the book builds up the relationship between the main characters. Chapters are 8-9 pages long.
